Special Day

In our religion, turning eight is a big deal because it's the age when you can be baptized if you choose. Lindsay has been very anxious to be baptized since her birthday, but she had to delay it due to grandparents not being able to travel last year. Well, a little over a week ago, we were finally able to watch her follow through on her choice to be baptized. It was a really lovely weekend, both sets of grandparents were able to come out, although we did miss all their aunts and uncles. But I'm so proud of Lindsay for the choices she's making and I couldn't be happier to watch her grow up.

Another double digits

Ten years ago this morning, I woke up very early with lots of pain and cramping. I tried to sleep off and on for the next couple of hours to make things easier, but by the time I really got out of bed, it was time to go to the hospital. This labor was my hardest and most painful, I believe, due mostly to the epidural that I insisted on getting as soon as we got in a hospital room (even though I'd already done one without drugs and was almost there with this one). The drug slowed everything down so the next couple of hours went by without much progress. That's when the doctors decided to give me pitocin to speed things back up. After being on the drug for a little while, I went from sitting and talking with my husband to crying hard with every contraction five minutes later. They brought the anesthesiologist in and he upped the epidural drip, telling me I would feel it in about half an hour. Determined to beat the clock, my little boy was born twenty minutes into it.

Although he might have been my nightmare labor, I cannot imagine a boy more loving and sweet than Cole. From the moment he got here, he has been a mama's boy through and through. I love that even a week ago, he was asking if I would have his dad sleep in his bed so he could share my bed with me. Whenever he finds me playing a video game, he will come curl up next to me and watch. He has the greatest sense of humor and is so incredibly intelligent. But, as much as I can't wait to see what he will be when he grows up, I really hope he takes his time because he got to ten way too fast.

So happy birthday to my little Cole buddy. I hope you have a fun birthday dinner tonight and know how much your mom and dad love you.
